ABOUT US
Wapping Community Church is a big, blended family of Christians that shares a love of God and service to each other and our neighbors. Our inspiration in this is the life and teaching of God’s son, Jesus Christ. As Protestants, our faith is grounded in the teachings of Jesus, and we treasure the Bible as a source for guidance, inspiration, and continuous education. As Congregationalists and members of the United Church of Christ, we celebrate two sacraments, baptism and communion.
For our congregation an important part of our faith is an obligation to serve others. This service can take many forms, and you can find Wapping folks in action both within our church and in the greater South Windsor community. Our church was officially founded in 1803, and across our over 220 years of history Wapping members have seen first-hand that active Christians, in common purpose, are a wonderful means to reflect and communicate God’s love to all.
Each person has their own unique relationship with God and Jesus Christ, and we cherish the diversity, experience and perspective that our members bring to our table. Whoever you are, or wherever you are on your life’s journey, you are most welcome here.

Open and Affirming (ONA) is the United Church of Christ's (UCC) designation for congregations, campus ministries, and other bodies in the UCC which make a public covenant of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and more.
Wapping Community Church unanimously voted to become an Open and Affirming church of the United Church of Christ January 2017. Our Open and Affirming covenant establishes our commitment in our faith journey and the faith journey of others:
OPEN AND AFFIRMING COVENANT
We, the members of Wapping Community Church, United Church of Christ, recognize the foundational importance of the prayer of Jesus: “That they may all be one” (John 17:21) by inviting all people into the full life, ministry, leadership, fellowship, sacraments, mission, and responsibilities of our congregation.
We take seriously the teaching of Jesus: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10:27). Each one of us offers our unique perspectives, experiences, gifts and talents, therefore, we welcome all who seek to follow Jesus, including persons of every age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race, national and faith origins, mental and physical ability, social and economic status, family structure and educational background.
