Governance and Leadership

The governance and operating structure of Wapping Community Church is the Congregational model.  As such, the governance is vested in the members, who exercise the right of control in all the church’s affairs.  The congregation holds final decisions on issues and is responsible for electing leaders.  The congregation operates under the guidance of by-laws that detail the governance structure.  Wapping Community Church is incorporated under Connecticut law.

Wapping Community Church is subject to control of no other ecclesiastical body,

but it recognizes the obligation of mutual counsel and cooperation common among churches of the United Church of Christ, which it voted to join on May 23, 1965, and other Christian Churches.

The members of Wapping Community Church confer on the Leadership Council, Officers and Ministers the oversight and day-to-day operations of the church’s programs and activities.

Leadership Council consists of the Ministers, certain Church Officers, and designated ministry representatives.  The Leadership Council oversees the operation of the church, including formulating, approving and supervising the execution of policies needed to fulfill its responsibilities.

Leadership Teams function as servant leaders to the many ministry groups which carry out the mission of Wapping Community Church.  Members and non-members can participate in the work of these ministry groups and are encouraged to do so.

If your actions inspire others to dream more,

learn more, do more and become more,

you are a leader.
