YOUR WEDDING AT WAPPING COMMUNITY CHURCH
We extend to you our welcome as you begin to makes plans for one of the most meaningful events of your lives. We are proud of our church and want to make its facilities and ministries available to you, whether you are a life-long member or new to our community. We also pledge to nurture and support you in your marriage and as individuals. We consider you to be part of our church family, and we hope that you will feel welcome in our community while you prepare for your wedding and in your marriage in the years to come.
PLANNING YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY
Careful advance planning will enhance the sacredness and joyfulness of your wedding. As you start to plan wedding ceremony, please contact the Office Administrator for a wedding guide and worksheet. Please return the the completed worksheet to the church office for calendar review. If the date is approved the next step would be to call the church office to arrange a premarital conversation with your officiating pastor.
This conversation will enable one of the pastors to learn more about you and your thoughts concerning your marriage. Your wedding date will then be placed on the church calendar. In the months before your wedding, you should plan to meet at least twice with your officiating pastor to discuss your wedding ceremony and your coming
marriage. It is your responsibility to call and set up appointments with the officiating pastor. We hope that these premarital conversations will give you a chance to better explore your relationship with each other and the place God has in your marriage.
SAME-SEX MARRIAGES
In June 2009, the Deacons adopted an update to the WCC Wedding Policy which affirmed the right of WCC clergy to perform marriages in the WCC sanctuary, on a gender neutral basis, for both members and non-members, in accordance with their call from God and subject to the processes outlined for all couples seeking to
wed in our sanctuary. This policy change effectively allows our clergy to conduct marriage ceremonies between
same-sex couples.
HONORARIA AND FEES
We consider weddings to be part of our mission as a church. Honoraria and fees compensate staff for the extra time they take preparing for and performing your wedding service.
Minister’s Honoraria…$400
Organist’s Honoraria…$250 (if accompanying a soloist…….. $280)
Sexton’s Fee…$100
Soloists (typically $100)
When neither person is a member of Wapping or when there is not a pledge in support of the ministry of the Church, it is expected that there will be a minimum gift of $200 in support of the ministry of this church. As a matter of Christian Stewardship, the gift to the Church should be seen in proportion to the total cost of the wedding. As a way to think of it-- to the church a gift of approximately 10% of what you might pay for the food of your reception.
In case of a very small wedding which does not require a rehearsal, honoraria will be adjusted according to the circumstances and time required.
The officiating pastor has the right to waive honoraria and fees in situations of financial hardship.
