We continued to work on our projects including placing concrete around the perimeter of the playground, enclosing the greenhouse with walls, planting the Buffalo art, and continuing to add the finishing touches on Kendall's house. We are all quite anxious about time constraints and are working furiously to get as much done as possible. We wish we could stay to see our projects to fruition, but we are confident that the next groups will pick up where we left off and take these projects across the finish line. There are many more projects to come in LaPlant, much more work to do, and people that need smiles on their faces.
Today, the topic is going to be the staff at Simply Smiles. Not only are they excellent cooks, but they are also dedicated and compassionate people who work from dawn to dusk to make our trip effective and memorable. They have a duel focus here; first, to help us through the logistics of working and eating at the community center. They supervise the projects and meet all of our needs with a smile on their face. They also work to serves of all of the residents of the community of LaPlant. Their quiet resolve to treat all people with dignity and respect sets the tone for our youth to do the same. It doesn't matter who walks through the community room door, all are welcomed with a hot cup of coffee or a quick game of connect 4, depending upon your age. We appreciate their hospitality and perseverance.
Checking out now - off to enjoy an evening of dance in the drum circle.
