ABOUT THE ORGAN

Our organ was built for the
church by the Allen Organ Company, the world?s largest builder of
church organs. The firm?s main plant is located in the heart of
Pennsylvania Dutch Country near Allentown.
The Allen Digital Computer Organ
MDS-51 has 80 stops over four divisions (three manuals and pedals with
an additional 100 stunningly realistic voices which are programed by
the organist using a computer reader built into the console. The
MDS-Expander II includes the Zimbelstern that emulates every aspect of
its mechanical counterpart. The organ provides tones that match organ
pipe sounds through the duplication of sound wave patterns, a process
that provides great musical flexibity and richness of tone. The
instrument?s tonal versatility allows it to respond to music of
Baroque, Romantic and Contemporary organ literature, as well as to
provide a solid foundation for hymnody in worship, and the
accompaniment of choral and solo works. The organ also includes the
Allen Smart Recorder giving the organist unlimited capture memory for
recording their pieces on 3-1/2 ins. high density floppy disks.
Tuning
the instrument is computer contolled. The organ is unaffected by
temperature and humidity changes, and does not require periodic tuning.
The MDS-51 also includes an automatic transposing device that permits
the organist to adjust the keyborad pitch though twelve different keys.
The
organ finish has been matched to the interior woods of the church. The
instrument speaks into the church from the two side chambers near the
pulpit each containing four speakers and from the two speaker cabinets
in the balconey that contain three speakers. In addition there is a
trumpet speaker in the rear the speaker chamber often used for wedding
marches.
Design and installation
assistance was provided by Mr. Gregg Turner of Allen Organ in
Glastonbury, Connecticut. Preparation work to accommodate the new organ
and speakers was provided by the Trustees of Wapping Community Church
led by Mr. Sam Brady and Mr. John Drake and the Music Committee of
Wapping Community Church led by Mr. Jan Kennedy and Mrs. Darcy Graham.
